Swansea City captain Garry Monk says Stoke City will post a different sort of threat when they face them tomorrow at the Liberty Stadium.

The former Southampton defender, along with fellow defensive team-mate Ashley Williams will have the task of dealing with Stoke’s £10million Summer signing – Peter Crouch – who offers an excellent aerial attacking threat – especially at set pieces.

Monk told the Official Site:

‘It’s a totally different test compared to the other teams we have faced this season, but we have faced teams that played in the same style as Stoke and also had massive players in their team,’

‘We can look back to that win over Portsmouth in the FA Cup as an example.

‘The last ten minutes we were winning 2-0 and the likes of Campbell, Distin, Kaboul, Hreidarsson, Crouch, Kanu – guys who are six foot plus – and I was telling Joe Allen and Britts to pick them up at corners. But we hung on.

‘Against Stoke we will have to combat their strengths, but we also have to impose our strengths on them.

‘A big strength of theirs is the set-piece, but it’s up to us to cut that out. Once we get the ball, we have the quality to cause them problems.’
