Skipper Garry Monk has told News of the World that he wishes former manager Roberto Martinez would ‘leave us alone’ as he attempts to sign another one of our players – Ferrie Bodde.

The defender is looking forward to when the transfer window shuts as we’ll be ensured then that we won’t lose another one of our star players.

Martinez tabled a written bid for Ferrie Bodde earlier in the week but chairman Huw Jenkins rejected it instantly, saying that it ‘didn’t even constitute an offer’.

Jason Scotland followed Roberto to the DW Stadium and loanee Jordi Gomez also joined the Latics from Espanyol. Both players were on the back of our local papers this week hoping that Bodde leaves the Swans and joins them at Wigan.

Monk told today’s News of the World:

‘I wish Roberto all the best at Wigan – but it’d be nice if he left us alone now.

‘We’ve got to keep our best players and Ferrie is one of them. He’s very important to us.

‘I’ll be glad when the transfer window shuts.

‘Every club in this division is in danger of losing players while it’s open. It’s a nightmare.

‘We’ve been building over the last few years and don’t want to see all that work come to nothing.’
