Michu is set to miss Saturday’s home game against Aston Villa, and there’s doubts if he’ll play again this season.

The Spaniard has had an on-going ankle problem since November 2013. He made a return to first team action recently but struggled to perform anywhere near to his usual high standards.

He is struggling again with the ankle he injured in the away game at Cardiff City last November, and there’s growing concerns now as to whether he’ll feature in the remaining games.

First team coach Alan Curtis has all but ruled him out of featuring again this season, he told the Evening Post:

‘The truth is we don’t know (when he will be available), I don’t think the medical staff are sure.

‘But I think if we can secure safety it might be best to leave him really so he has the summer to rest and get some treatment, then when we report back in July he will be refreshed and be the player he was for us last season.’

With last season’s top goalscorer struggling for form and to recover from injury, Wilfried Bony has taken over the goalscoring duties, having netted 22 goals, including 13 in the League in the 2013/14 campaign.
