Swansea City defender Alfie Mawson was your Man of the Match choice in last Saturday’s 0-0 home draw against Watford.

‘He was excellent, one of very few positives from the game. We finally look like we’ve found our strongest defence.’

The 22 year-old made his senior debut for the club having only featured for the under-23s so far this season, as he slotted in alongside Mike van der Hoorn in a new-look defence, as Bob Bradley made 3 defensive changes after the 3-2 defeat at Arsenal the week before.

The changes at the back, were a risk, but it paid off as they helped the team keep a clean sheet for the first time since the opening day win at Burnley.

The tall and strong pairing of van der Hoorn and Mawson kept Deeney and Ighalo at arms length during the match. Mawson was often touch-tight on Deeney, ensuring he had no space during the game while van der Hoorn was a dominant figure in the air.

But having said that, some fans aren’t willing to get too excited by the youngster just yet, as they had little to do in a game that Swansea were quite comfortable in for the majority of the 90 minutes. They’ll come up against some tougher tests soon with the likes of Manchester United and Everton coming up.

Mawson won the man of the match with 56% of the votes, with Modou Barrow in second place with 17%.
