Roberto Martinez has confirmed that Gorka Pintado will not feature against Charlton Athletic on Saturday.
The striker had suffered a groin strain after a challenge from a Chester City defender in last nights 3-2 win over the league two outfit. Pintado now joins last seasons league one top goal scorer Jason Scotland on the sidelines. Still recovering from his operation to rectify muscle problems in Germany earlier last month the Trinidad and Tobago international is still a few weeks of full fitness.
It leaves Martinez light on attacking options as he looks to prepare his squad for the clubs first game back in the championship in 24 years. Guillem Bauza and Fabien Brandy will be vying for starting spots at The Valley, with the Spaniard in fine goal scoring form so far this pre season who would bet against him getting the nod over the Manchester United youngster.
Martinez Told The WM:
|“I would still be comfortable with my options. We are not talking about long-term injuries, just minor niggles. The last thing we want is to rush these players back when they are not 100 per cent. And I`m very confident the players we have got will score goals. Gorka had to come off as a precaution. He felt his groin go slightly in a challenge with a Chester defender and we will just have to see where we are over the next 48 hours.|
There is no major concern though. With these kind of injuries the worst-case scenario would normally be that he is out for 10 days, but we will just have to wait for the scans to come back. Jason had another good session in training yesterday. But he is probably 10 days away from playing at a competitive standard and I wouldn`t expect him to play at Charlton.”
Kristian O Leary will be honored for his long service to the club tomorrow afternoon as the Swans prepare to face Premiership new boys West Bromwich Albion.
