Swansea City manager Roberto Martinez has urged his players to improve on the performance levels that saw his side run out 1-0 winners over arch rivals Cardiff City last night.

Two solid back to back Carling Cup performances against the Bluebirds and Hull City in the second round will give Martinez and his inexperienced squad the motivation to push on and upset all the odds in the second tier of British football.Starting with a tricky test away to face Steve Coppell’s Reading on Saturday,

The Spaniard has urged his players to refocus and regroup to face the Royals who lie in the last play off place in 6th.

Martinez also took time out to praise fans for their part in the win over the Bluebirds.17,411 supporters packed into the Liberty Stadium yesterday evening which provided the perfect backdrop to the first Welsh derby in 9 years. Appealing to the fans to make the Liberty an intimidating place for opposition teams to come the former Chester City player believes that the fans have a role to play throughout the season.

Martinez Told The BBC:

‘We created more chances than Cardiff and we read the tempo of the game very well.We are still adapting at this level, but it’s pleasing when you see players with a lack of experience, which we know we have in this division, perform like they did.I think the atmosphere was the best I’ve seen at Liberty Stadium and that’s credit to the fans.If we could have this atmosphere in every home game I think it would be some place to come and try to get a point.’

We need to keep improving and there are areas we need to get better in.The boys need to focus and regroup because on Saturday we have a massive, massive game at Reading.’
