Swansea City supremo Roberto Martinez has challenged his squad players to prove themselves before the January transfer window opens in a couple of weeks time.

The Spaniard is referring specifically to the left back slot, which has become cursed at the Liberty Stadium so far this season.

Loanee Stephen O’Halloran is the latest to be hit with a season ending injury, following Marcos Painter’s knee injury and Fede Bessone’s hamstring problem.

Whilst Bessone is set to return in the New Year, Martinez is still short on cover for the specialist position, but he is putting his faith in the squad he has assembled to fill the void.

Martinez told the Evening Post:

‘We will have to find a solution in the squad and we have a few options. We need to make sure in our daily work that we find the right option.’

‘We have a great opportunity ? we have got three games before the window, and we will have to find our options in the squad.’

‘As a squad you have seen Alan Tate come off the bench and play in many, many options.’

‘That is a huge strength. We have got that within the squad. It is great to have a squad that can you find solutions.’

‘Left-back is a specific position, but the teams we will play against will give us a different need in that position.’

‘We need to make sure we respond positively towards it. The emergency loan window is closed, so it is a fantastic challenge for the squad.’
