Swansea City manager had nothing but praise for his players yesterday after signing off the promotion season with a win by the seaside.

For weeks Swansea City players and staff have been waiting to get their hands on the league one trophy. The wait was finally over yesterday afternoon as Captain Garry Monk lead the Swansea squad onto the pitch to collect the glittery but allusive prize after securing a 1-0 win over Brighton.

Brighton nearly took the lead early on thanks to Nicky Forster effort but his shot went wide of Dorus De Vries in the Swansea goal. Roberto Martinez indicated midweek that he wants on loan Manchester United loanee Fabien Brandy to sign on for another season with the club.

With 12 minutes remaining the youngster fired Swansea into the lead when an inspired Shaun McDonald managed to get behind his marker Matt Richards and find Brandy who fired it past Dutchman Michel Kuipers in the Brighton goal.

Finishing off the season on a winning note according to the Spaniard wrapped up one of the best seasons in recent memory for the Liberty Stadium club.

Martinez Told The BBC:

‘To finish with a win wraps up a fantastic season for Swansea City. It’s all about being champions. What is clear is that we got promoted with a little bit of a margin and now we can celebrate with the fans.’

I think we’ve got a philosophy as a football club throughout the years with our legends and the golden years (under John Toshack) and I think this season all of the boys have written their own chapter in that football history.’

Roberto Martinez is expected to have one to one meetings with players today to discus their futures at the club.
