Roberto Martinez gave special praise to Mark Gower and Jason Scotland after yesterday’s 1-1 draw against Fulham in the FA Cup 5th round.

The two players linked up brilliantly throughout the game and it their link-up play that got us a deserved equaliser on 52 minutes.

Gower provided Scotland with the ball, and with his back to goal he turned his marker before striking low with his left foot to beat the keeper.

“Two top performers in a team of real players.”

They also linked up well after 3 minutes, they did a neat one-two but Gower’s shot came back off the far post and into the keeper’s hands.

Gower, still looking for his first goal for the club, had a great chance of scoring from just 6 yards out. Rangel picked him out with a cross, he was unmarked at the far post but his rather weak shot was well saved by Schwarzer.

Martinez was revealed to BBC Sport that Scotland was only at 50% before kick off:

‘Not many people knew that Jason wasn’t feeling well,’

‘He was at 50 per cent and that shows what a quality player he is.’

‘It’s one of those situations that it seems that the ball is not going in,’

‘But if you look at the quality of his play and the link up play, he works hard to get those chances.

‘That tells you that as long as he keeps the standards, he will score lots of goals for Swansea City.

‘Some of his play and movement off the ball was outstanding.’

‘With the performance, we were the better side and when you do that, you need to win football games.

‘We controlled the whole game and we limited Fulham to very, very little.

‘We conceded a poor goal. It came in a crucial moment, but the way the players reacted is probably the biggest positive that I’m going to take from the performance.

‘Fulham are a very good side and if you look at their record at their place, they are going to be favourites, and in that respect, it’s going to be difficult for us.’

Swansea City will now fancy their chances of progressing through to the quarter finals when we travel to Craven Cottage on February 24th for the replay.

The FA Cup Quarter Final draw is at 6:30pm this afternoon, visit Vital Swansea for news on who we could play.
