Roberto Martinez has signalled his intent to take his time in signing a new defender to replace Izzy Iriekpen.

There has been mass speculation surrounding Derby’s Darren Moore in recent weeks. The powerful Centre Back has been targeted by Martinez despite Swansea City Chairman Huw Jenkins refuting that Moore was even a target last week.

Swansea City will face stiff competion to land the 31 year old Defender. There are a host of Championship clubs after his services including Hull City.

Moore has also been given assurances by Rams boss Billy Davis that he still has a part to play in the premiership next season.

Swansea City Manager Roberto Martinez told The South Wales Evening Post :

‘But I look at my squad now and I’m very happy.

While we will look into strengthening the centre of defence, it’s vital now that we realise our daily work is more important.

We have brought in players this summer to strengthen certain departments. The squad looks fantastic and now we must focus on our work.”’

It is also thought that the wage demands of Moore are too high.We certainly do need another defender in the CB position to provide adequate cover.

However we should not break the bank for Moore’s services , and with other targets in mind Martinez has a host of other options.
