Roberto Martinez felt today’s 2-2 draw at home to rivals Cardiff City was 2 points dropped.
Darren Pratley gave us an excellent opportunity to go above Cardiff in the League table after opening the scoring on just 19 minutes, but Joe Ledley struck a vital equaliser on the stroke of half time.
3 minutes into the second half, the Bluebirds took the lead as Bessone was guilty of conceding a penalty. It was a controversial decision from the referee to say the least, with little contact and the fact that the challenge was arguably not inside the box.
Pintado came off the bench to equaliser but despite our dominance, we were unable to score the winner against 10-man Cardiff.
Martinez told BBC Sport:
|‘We created enough chances to win the game.|
‘The first goal we conceded was our own fault and the penalty as soft.
‘We knew what Cardiff were trying to do, get compact and get behind the ball and it’s difficult to break that down, but the substitutions helped.
‘We are a team that don’t play in straight lines and we were unfortunate not to score the winner.
‘I’m not pleased with the result, I’m pleased with the performance and the way the players reacted. For me, it’s two points dropped.’
