Midfielder Jordi Lopez says he’s aiming to earn a regular place in the side after playing in Tuesday’s 0-0 draw against Coventry City.

The Spaniard, who signed on a free at the beginning of the season from QPR, has struggled to get into the first team after failing to impress at the start of the year.

Leon Britton was missing from the squad on Tuesday, fueling rumours that he’s leaving to join Wigan Athletic, and Lopez was brought back in to the centre of midfield.

He didn’t take his chance to stake his claim for a regular first team place though and he was brought off at half time.

Lopez said:

‘Like everybody here, I want to play from the start in every game,’

‘I’m working every day to get a starting position in the team. It’s not easy as there are many good players here and you need to take your chance when you are in the first XI.

‘When any player gets three or four games in a row it is better for him because it is difficult to come in and make an impression in just one game.

‘I need a run of games to show my quality, but I understand there are a lot of players wanting to do the same.’

‘I understood that the gaffer wanted to make a tactical switch.

‘Of course, it was disappointing as I wanted to help the team, but there wasn’t any problem.

‘I want the best for the team and I am behind the gaffer in his decisions.’
