Shefki Kuqi revealed that our arch rivals Cardiff City also showed an interest in signing the striker.

The Finn told the Evening Post that Bluebirds manager Dave Jones made an enquiry at the start of the season about signing him, but he says after speaking to Sousa his mind was easily made up as he opted to join the Swans in January:

‘At one stage there was interest from Cardiff ? it was at the start of the season,’

‘Cardiff had just moved into a new stadium, did well the previous season and had started this season well.

‘My agent told me before that Cardiff may be an option. I’m not sure what happened in the end.

‘They showed interest in signing me a few times before then too.

‘It’s a nice place, but I spoke to the gaffer (Sousa) later on and my mind was made up ? it was a really easy decision for me to make.’

‘I’ve played in a few derbies, but this will be the biggest,’ he added.

‘The games I’ve been involved in are not friendly, but they are nothing like it is here.

‘The Sheffield derby was huge because there was a lot of tension between fans, but this is bigger than that.

‘You get some kind of feeling that fires you up and you can’t wait to kick off and put yourself about.

‘I like this type of game. When the opposition crowd are shouting at me it helps me raise my game. I love to see my team-mates really getting stuck in and fighting for the club.
