Huw Jenkins has played down speculation linking Italian legend Gianfranco Zola with the Swansea City manager’s job.

The former West Ham United manager has been strongly linked with a move to the Swans recently, with Internet rumours suggesting he was seen at the Liberty Stadium.

However, the Swansea City chairman has insisted he hasn’t spoken to anyone regarding Zola.

“I have no idea where the bookmakers` favourites have come from,”

“I have never spoken to anyone regarding Gianfranco Zola and I have no idea where it has come from.

Scunthorpe United manager Nigel Adkins and former assistant manager, Graeme Jones, now at Wigan Athletic, have also been ruled out by Huw Jenkins.

“I have said that I have a lot of respect for Nigel Adkins but we have never even approached Scunthorpe about him. I haven`t spoken to Nigel either so that says enough about that one.”

“I have never mentioned Graeme as a candidate. He might be a popular choice with the players because he was part of a very successful coaching team, but that is something different.

“He is under contract with Wigan anyway so there is nothing in it as far as I am concerned.”

After ruling out moves for some of the bookies favourites to take the job, we can expect a whole new list of top names at the likes of SkyBet and Victor Chandler.
