Kenny Jackett hinted today that 17 year-old midfielder Shaun MacDonald could keep his place in the starting line-up.

He produced an excellent performance against Southend on Saturday with McLeod injured and Britton doubtful, he could well keep his place on the wing.

Jackett said:

‘Tommy Williams is the obvious one to replace Kevin,’

‘He played three games there for us when he first signed and made three goals.

‘But Shaun can play both sides even though he is right-footed. If Leon makes it, I could go with the two of them as they both have a bit of craft.’

He was impressed with the young midfielder and says he’s just the sort of player the club needs.

He said:

‘Shaun was terrific,’

‘He and Rory Fallon were our top performers and when you consider that Shaun is not 18 until June and that was his first league start, he did very well.

‘He has started two games before for us this season, against Peterborough and Torquay, in the centre of midfield and it was a bit too much for him physically,’

‘But in a wide position he’s done very well coming off the bench against Nottingham Forest and Colchester and now starting against Southend.

‘Assessing him in training over the last year, Shaun hasn’t looked out of place at all. In fact he looks one of our better players.
