Swansea City manager Michael Laudrup updates us on the latest injury news ahead of Sunday’s game at Southampton.
The Swans will assess the fitness of a number of first team players ahead of their tough trip to St Mary’s for Sunday’s 1.30pm kick off.
Captain Ashley Williams is a major doubt with an ankle injury but the defender is hoping to return after missing Thursday’s Europa League home game against St Gallen.
If he misses out, Chico Flores and Jordi Amat will partner each other in defence again as Garry Monk is also sidelined with a knee problem.
Angel Rangel has a better chance of returning following an ankle injury, while Laudrup admits that it’s probably too risky to bring Pablo Hernandez back into the side:
‘I want Ashley 100 per cent. I don’t think it’s good for anyone to be on the pitch and be any less,’
‘You can’t play at 70 or 80 per cent. I will never ask a player to play if I don’t think he is fit enough.
‘Angel has a chance. His injury is less severe than Ashley’s so he could be okay.
‘With Pablo it is muscle. I think it will be too much of a risk to put him in this game so we will leave him out knowing he will have a two-week break.’
Michu will also be assessed after his nasty head injury during Thursday’s game where he required stitches at half time to continue playing against St Gallen.
