Swansea City head coach Francesco Guidolin said he was proud to hear the travelling fans chant his name as his side produced a superb performance away at West Ham.

Wayne Routledge, Andre Ayew, Ki Sung Yueng and even Bafetimbi Gomis got on the scoresheet in a 4-1 win, their first away win against the Hammers in 60 years.

Another three points sees the Swans go up to 11th in the table – quite incredible really considering where the club were at the start of 2016.

Guidolin has divided fans opinion of him since he was appointed back in January. Some wrote him off from the very start – why I don`t know – a lack of Premier League experience probably. But he`s shown no lack of enthusiasm, influence and impact on the team as he`s steered them well clear of relegation with games to spare.

Whatever your thoughts on Francesco then or now, you can`t deny that he`s done a remarkable job since January. No one would have predicted us to beat Everton, Chelsea, Liverpool or West Ham and to be in 11th place after the penultimate game of the season.

The 60 year-old Italian said he was proud to hear the fans chanting his name at West Ham:

‘I think my job is a good job because we’ve improved week after week, Yes, sometimes [we’re] up, sometimes [we’re] down – that is a characteristic of this season – but now there is a very good feeling with the team.

‘I don’t know what will happen in the future.

‘I’ve done my job with enthusiasm, with feeling, with the players and the staff and I am happy for our fans today. They were fantastic our fans today.’

‘I was surprised they sang my name, It was a good surprise for me and I am proud of this.

‘I have been here four months but there is a good feeling with the fans.’

‘[It was] a good performance and now we can say it’s not a bad season,’ he added. ‘Now we can say that, for us, it was a season with difficulties, but we have the possibility to finish well and I hope to see my team play this well next Sunday as well.

‘I think it’s possible because the fitness is good and my players are good players. I’m confident.’

Brendan Rodgers may be the man that many newspapers believe is already set to take over next season, but should the club look nowhere else for next season and offer Guidolin a new contract?

We`re beginning to see the style of football that Guidolin prefers to play. And if today is anything to go by, I`d like to see more of it next season. We counter-attacked with pace we haven`t seen since the days of Michael Laudrup. Barrow and Kingsley were an excellent attacking partnership down the left flank, and it was when the winger swapped to the opposite flank that they got in front. Routledge had the simple task of knocking the ball into the net from Naughton`s first time cutback.

The other 3 goals were further examples of just what the team is capable of when they attack with pace. Ayew also tapped the ball in from a couple of yards before Ki volleyed home brilliantly following Barrow`s excellent skill and cross. Gomis then scored a rare goal after a break-away from a corner in injury time.
