Graham Potter, Swansea City’s number one target for their vacant manager’s position, has told the Ostersunds Post that the club want to “regain their identity” and “build for the future”.

After Ostersunds chairman Daniel Kindberg confirmed on Saturday that he has given permission to Huw Jenkins to speak to Potter, he spoke to the Ostersunds Post about a number of different things, but refused to give too much away about a potential move to South Wales.

Whilst Kindberg announced after their 2-0 home win against BK Hacken that he had a call on Friday from Huw Jenkins, it is clear that Potter has already spoken to the Swansea City chairman. Firstly, Potter let slip during the press conference that he needed “more talks”, and in the interview today he explained briefly about Swansea’s future plans, he said:

“It’s a former Premier League club that wants to return. They want to regain their identity and build something for the future.

They have a fantastic fan base with passionate supporters. There is nothing more to say than it is a big football club.”

I came to this club when it was in the fourth division and nobody really liked it. Not even the people here in Ostersund. So when you think where we are now and where we were then, it will be obviously emotional and nostalgic to look back and feel proud.”  – Graham Potter

Reports suggest that Potter has already told his Ostersunds players that he will be leaving, but Potter simply said that they are aware of the interest:

“The players know the situation that there’s an interest and that I’ve been approached. But I have told them that they need a nice break.”

Potter has built something special in Sweden, something to be really proud of, and as he says, something to look back on.

His family have been settled in Sweden for 7 years or so it doesn’t sound like something he’ll be willing to give up easily.

When asked about it, he agreed that it takes a “real challenge” to give that up for something new:

“Yes absolutely. All parts must fit in. There are many jobs in football but you have to be careful how to choose them. It is about the right time, the right kind of project and the right place.”

Potter wasn’t willing to go into any more detail about talks with the Swans, but it does sound like it’s a tempting project to take on.

“I do not want to repeat it right now. They have contacted me and told about their project.”

However, Potter will now go on holiday to New York for two weeks so we’re still left wondering when the appointment will be made – or at all.

“My wife booked. It will be two weeks in New York.”

He may be odds on a 1/25 to be Swansea City’s new manager and reported as good as joining us, but you still can’t help but wonder if it’ll really happen. Surely it’s not something we can sit on whilst he’s sunning it up in America, and you would expect that we’ll want a decision either way early next week.
