Mark Gower said while it’s good to see our rivals drawing or losing, it’s frustrating to drop 5 points in the last two games, points that could prove to be vital at the end of the season.

Swansea City lost at Scunthorpe United last Saturday and then drew at home to Watford in midweek – a game we should have got 3 points from.

As a result, Norwich City have been able to close the gap on us, we’re still in 2nd place but we’re only ahead of the Canaries on goal difference.

Gower said:

‘There are two ways of looking at it,’

We were lucky on Tuesday because the teams around us dropped points and that’s great.

‘It’s good news when you come in and hear that your rivals have drawn or lost, but it’s frustrating at times because the Watford game is one we should have won.

‘We could be taking advantage of these situations and giving ourselves a bit of a cushion.

‘Between that game and the Scunthorpe game we could have been five points better off ? that could be vital to us.

‘But while Norwich have moved level on points with us now, it’s still in our hands and that’s the best situation to be in.’

Gower now says we must go to Derby County on Saturday and win if we want to stay in the automatic promotion places:

‘They’ve struggled this season, which is a bit surprising, and they’ve been on a poor run of late,’

‘They’ll be desperate to get themselves out of trouble and a good result against us would help them move in the right direction.

‘But it’s so tight at the top now and that means we have to go to places like Derby and win.

‘If we do that, it doesn’t matter what everyone else does around us.’
