Marcos Painter was given the all-clear after having scans on an injured fibula, which many feared was a broken leg.

He suffered the injury during Saturday’s 2-1 home win against Brighton and left the field at the end of the first half.

Roberto Martinez was relieved with the news and said: ‘It’s good news that nothing is broken,”

‘But the leg is still badly bruised and sore and we will have to assess the situation over the next 48 hours.”

Despite the good news, Painter still faces a race against time to be fit for Saturday’s long trip North to fellow play-off hopefuls Carlisle.

The squad will fly to Newcastle rather than travelling 333 miles and will meet the team coach for the remainder of the journey.

Supporters can pay at the turnstile for the game as it is not an all-ticket affair.
