Dutch trialist Michael Van Der Heijden has impressed Swansea boss Roberto Martinez.
The 26 year old has shown a good attitude according to the Spaniard and will keep on assessing the midfielder until the end of this week before making a decision on the former Haarlem player. Scoring the 4th goal in the 5-0 win over Neath Athletic on Wednesday could have aided his quest for a contract with the club. Last season the highly rated Dutchman plyed his trade with FC Lisse who are in the Hoofdklasse the third tier of the Dutch game. However Van Der Heijden does have other options after completing a successful trial with Erste Divise outfit RBC Roosendaal.
Signing in 2001 for Ado Den Haag the prospect of playing alongside former teamates Ferrie Bodde and Dorus De Vries could prove a lure for the Hauge born midfielder. Available on a free transfer Der Heijden his signing would not break the bank as Martinez looks to put the finishing touches to his championship squad..
Martinez Told The BBC:
|” I want to assess the whole squad before we make a decision.Michael has come in, he’s shown a great attitude and he needs to keep working hard..I will carry on assessing Michael, we’re going to keep him on until the end of the week and then we’ll see what’s his situation. We have many new faces from the last campaign and everyone is bringing something different, adding an extra dimension to the squad. Now it’s a case of working together and making sure that we gel together, there are a few partnerships already on the pitch. Everyone has done what is required.”|
The new away kit is available tomorrow from the club shop.
