Swansea City midfielder Jack Cork has completed a £8m move to fellow Premier League side Burnley.
The fee could be worth up to £10m with add-ons included, but there’s no detail as to what criteria is required to meet the add-ons within the deal.
After a 6-year absence, Cork returns to Turf Moor having had two seperate loan spells at the club in 2010 and 2011 respectively.
The 25 year-old has completed the loan after signing a four-year deal at Burnley, who will compete in the Premier League for the third consecutive season.
Cork was made club skipper last season following Ashley Williams’ 2016 summer move to Everton. He was a regular starter at the start of the year as a result, but he struggled to perform, before enjoying a better spell under new head coach Paul Clement.
However, with the arrival of new Spanish signing Roque Mesa, it appears that the club thought that the deal for Cork was too good to turn down.
Cork, father of former manager Alan, joined the Swans in January 2015, and has enjoyed being mostly a regular in two-and-a-half seasons, making 80 League appearances in that time and scoring two goals.
Known for his work-rate, application and desire, Cork is very much a defensive midfielder, and he often looked more useful out of possession than in it. It was arguably his slowness in possession that was his main weakness, while Leon Britton would return to the side and show more dynamism as a deep-lying midfield anchor.
Having said that, Cork was a great servant in his brief spell at the Liberty Stadium, and I’m sure fans will wish him all the best at Burnley.
He joins the likes of Gomis, Tabanou, (permanent transfers) Borja and Amat (loans) who have left the club this Summer.
