Swansea City have officially confirmed the signing of Exeter City midfielder Matt Grimes on a four and a half year deal.

We first reported speculation of his possible arrival more than three weeks ago here after the Daily Mail linked us with a £1.75m move for the highly rated 19 year-old.

Grimes told the Official Site that he was delighted to put pen to paper at the Liberty Stadium:

“I`m glad it`s done – I`m delighted,“

“We`ve been talking about it for well over a month and, if I`m honest, it`s been really stressful waiting for the move to be finalised; agonising at times.

“It`s a sad day to leave Exeter because I`ve been with the club from the age of 10. They`ve been fantastic to me and I can only thank them for their help. It`s a great club with good people and supporters.

“But I`m moving on to bigger and better things and I hope it`s the start of another successful chapter in my career.

“I can`t wait to get started. Obviously I need to settle in first, get in and around the first team and hope to take any opportunities that come my way in the future.

“I`ve watched a lot of Swansea, especially over the last month or so, and I`m a big fan of Ki (Sung-Yueng). We played against Swansea in pre-season and I thought he was class.

“But they`ve got good players all over the pitch and I love their style. The manager instils total football into the players and the club seems really grounded, probably because they`ve come from the bottom in such a short space of time.

“It`s going to be great to be part of all that.’

Grimes is the club’s second signing of the January transfer window following Nelson Oliveira’s arrival from Benfica on loan. The Swans are next up on Saturday at Tranmere Rovers in the FA Cup third round, but Grimes is unavailable to play as he is cup tied.
