Swansea City defender Chico Flores has been strongly linked with a move to former manager Michael Laudrup’s Lekhwiya.
Reports suggest that the Spaniard has gone out to Qatar for talks about a possible move worth £4m plus – double the £2m that the Swans paid for him two seasons ago.
Chico’s future at the Liberty Stadium came into question when he was reported to have brandished a brick at the training ground – which required Garry Monk – only a player at the time – to sort out the problem.
It was strongly denied but sources close to the club suggest that a brick was held by the player ‘as if to throw it at someone’.
However, it looked like Chico and Monk made up and moved on from the incident. This move may have nothing to do with that whatsoever as Chico continued to play when Monk became manager.
There has been a Spanish exodus at Swansea City this Summer and if Chico were to leave – which is now expected – it would leave only two Spaniards at the club – defenders Angel Rangel and Jordi Amat. At one time, there were 8 Spaniards in the team – but Alejandro Pozuelo, Michu, Pablo Hernandez and loanee Alvaro Vazquez have all left – while Jose Canas is also expected to move on in the near future.
Manager Garry Monk has recently said that he’s still looking to bring in two or three extra players this month, and with a defender (Chico) and a defensive midfielder (Canas) set to leave soon, those positions should be his priority.
