Leon Britton has handed the club a boost ahead of the new season by signing a new 3 year deal with the club.

Contract negotiations have been in the pipeline for a while now and this new deal ties Britton to the club until 2010. In previous seasons the 24 year old Londoner has been by far the clubs most consistent performer on the pitch.

Britton has made over 200 + appearances for the club since signing on loan in 2002 from West Ham United.

Britton
On The Official Site:

‘I’m obviously pleased to get the deal done. We’ve been speaking about it all summer since the club first approached me at the end of last season.’

With just one year left on my contract, I suppose I couldn’t have worked out any better for me last season.

I’ve been settled at the club since the very first day I arrived at the Vetch on loan and I was more than happy to commit myself to the club for another three years.’

I know people said I had a good season last year, but at 24 I firmly believe there is better to come from me over the next few years.’

Britton was also left in no doubt that the style of play Swansea City manager Roberto Martinez wants to play will suit him.

”I think there are some exciting times ahead for the club. The squad we’ve got is exciting; especially with the mix we’ve got with the new foreign players coming in.

And the gaffer (Roberto Martinez) has brought in plenty of new ideas on and off the pitch. He likes to play a flowing, pass and move game which is more my strength than the physical side.” ‘

Extending Britton’s contract was essential not to do so would have been disastrous. He has proven himself at this level week in week out.
