Leon Britton and Marvin Emnes are expected to miss the opening game of the season away at Manchester United because of knee injuries

Leon Britton and Marvin Emnes are expected to miss the opening game of the season away at Manchester United because of knee injuries.

The news comes as a blow to Garry Monk’s plans, as Leon Britton at least would have been included in the starting eleven at Old Trafford on August 16th at 12:45pm.

With Jay Fulton also out injured, Monk is low on defensive midfielders – leaving Ki the only other one available in the squad. Canas is also still in the squad but he isn’t in Monk’s plans, and wasn’t included in the team to face Plymouth Argyle in a friendly on Sunday.

The Official Site explained:

‘Britton is suffering from a badly bruised bone in his knee, while Emnes has a meniscal (cartilage) problem.

Both players will have another scan in two weeks` time to assess the full damage.’
