Borja Baston is being linked with a season-long loan to La Liga side Malaga

Sources in Spain are reporting that Swansea City record signing Borja Baston is set to return to La Liga on loan.

A source here says that Malaga, who finished 11th in La Liga last season, are set to sign the Spaniard on loan, with the Swans paying some of his wages.

Borja arrived last Summer with great potential from Atletico Madrid, having scored 18 goals in La Liga the season before for Eibar on loan, but he struggled in the Premier League in 2016/17, making only a handful of appearances – scoring one goal.

The 24 year-old desperately needs to re-discover his confidence and goal scoring form after a season of mostly watching on from the stands, as there were even games last year when under-23s striker Oli McBurnie was getting a place on the bench ahead of the £15.5m signing.

The Swans will hope that Borja will be another huge success again in La Liga, he has shown before that he can score goals in his native Spain, but he’s yet to have a fair chance to prove he can do the same in the Premier League.

A successful season will raise his transfer value once again, and the Swans can later decide whether to cash in on him next Summer, or hope he can still develop into a quality striker for us in the Premier League.

Borja Baston would be the second Swansea City striker to leave this Summer after Gomis’ move to Turkish outfit Galatasaray.
