Swansea City’s new attacking first team coach James Beattie has shared his reaction to the appointment on his official twitter page.

The former Southampton and England striker was this week appointed as a first team coach, working alongside Alan Curtis and Kristian O’Leary.

Beattie tweeted that he was ‘honoured and proud’ to join the Swans – ‘Many thanks for all your good luck messages. Can’t wait to meet up again with all the staff and players @SwansOfficial. Honoured and Proud’ before posting a second tweet saying ‘Hard work, diligence and total commitment to the cause. Helping this fine club progress under the leadership of an excellent young manager.’

Swansea City learnt today that they will kick off the new season away at Premier League champions Chelsea on Saturday 8th August. The toughest of starts no less but the following week they have an interesting opening home game against Newcastle United, now managed by Steve McLaren – given the job despite a less than convincing job at Derby County.
