Supermarket giants ASDA will be sponsoring the East Stand at the Liberty Stadium as the name was official revealed yesterday.

Steve Maher, general store manager for Asda in Swansea, said:

‘This is an exciting milestone for us and the Liberty Stadium. The deal has been struck at such a thrilling time for the city’s sporting heroes. It is a real triumph for us to be involved.’

A stadium spokesman said:

‘As we approach the end of our first season, Liberty Stadium has already played host to some wonderful sporting occasions in front of some huge crowds.

‘And the East Stand has already taken the place of the North Bank at the Vetch and the big bank at St Helen’s in the hearts of sports fans in the region.

‘Thanks to this sponsorship deal, we’re sure the Asda Stand at Liberty Stadium will become synonymous with sporting success for the region.’

The Sponsorship deal includes internal and external signage of the stand, promotional programme advertising and the allowance of the Asda store on Upper Forrest Way to sell both match day tickets and official shirts.

Meanwhile, John Toshack is hoping the Swans will make it to the play off final and to ”mess up my plans for the national team.”

Sam Ricketts and Tudur-Jones have been included in the Wales squad to face the Basque Country on May 20th and Trinidad & Tobago on May 27th.

The former Swans manager is hoping the duo won’t be available and said:

‘Because of my attachment to Swansea, I really want them to mess up my plans for the national team by qualifying for the play-off final.’
