After Borja’s confirmed loan to Malaga, defender Jordi Amat is expected to join fellow La Liga side Real Betis on loan.
After Borja’s loan was confirmed yesterday on the official site here, Jordi Amat is expected to be the next player out of the Liberty Stadium exit door.
The 25 year-old defender has struggled to nail down a regular first team place with the Swans, but he did begin the 2016/17 campaign in the starting line-up alongside Federico Fernandez.
However, his performances got worse and worse under Francesco Guidolin and then Bob Bradley, before new head coach Paul Clement decided to put his faith in new defensive duo Alfie Mawson and Federico Fernandez to see out the second half of the season.
Amat had shown some potential in previous seasons, when playing alongside former skipper Ashley Williams, but he failed to impress former manager Garry Monk, who decided to use Kyle Bartley over the Spaniard during his last spell of games in the 2015/16 season.
Clement also didn’t use Amat at all in 4 of his matchday squads, opting for Mike van der Hoorn instead.
With Amat expected to leave on loan, Kyle Bartley will probably stay on as third of fourth choice defender along with van der Hoorn.
Many fans have recognised that the defence, which conceded 70 League goals last season, needs strengthening the most this Summer, but the club may (unfortunately) decide that 4 centre backs is enough cover.
The main question though is – is the strength and depth strong enough? You could argue that across the defence, there’s a lack of competition to threaten the first teamer’s places.
