Joe Allen says Swansea City are beginning to prove a lot of people wrong as they continue to rise up the Championship table.

Many people, including fans, pundits and bookmakers predicted a difficult second season in the Championship for the Swans after we lost our management staff as well as two of our top goalscorers – Jason Scotland and Jordi Gomez. However, Paulo Sousa has guided his side to 11th place, and despite an indifferent start, we’re looking like a good bet for a play-off place if we can maintain our current form.

Young midfielder Joe Allen has recently returned to the first team after an injury-hit start to his season, and he performed superbly on Saturday as he helped us beat Cardiff City 3-2 in a thrilling derby match at the Liberty Stadium.

Allen said:

‘We have had some doubters this season, especially at the start, and I think we are beginning to prove some people wrong now,’

‘We always knew as players and as a club that things would come good for us, and I think our run of 10 games unbeaten speaks for itself.

‘We got some plaudits for what we did last season, and some people have said that we haven’t had enough this year.

‘But the most important thing is where we are in the table and what we achieve this season.

‘We believe we can do well because we believe in ourselves, and that’s what matters.’

‘It was the biggest game I have been involved in,’ Allen added.

‘We had some great cup ties last season, but the Cardiff games have a special feeling to them.

‘There’s a special edge and it’s great to play a part.

‘We were disappointed to go in level at half-time after controlling the first half hour, but we were still confident.

‘We knew that if we carried on the way we started we would get the goal, and thankfully that’s what happened.’
