The agent of Atalanta midfielder Luca Cigarini has revealed that the player could sign a contract with Swansea City this Summer.
The 29 year-old midfielder has been compared to Italian great Pirlo, – ‘the new Pirlo’ some are saying even though he’s well into the prime of his footballing career.
He still has three years remaining on his contract at his Serie A club, but reports say that he could be available for around £5m.
Sampdoria and Watford are other clubs that have also been recently been linked with the player.
Football Italia has his agent quoted as saying:
“Swansea called several times and are seriously interested in signing him. If we reach an agreement, he`d be very happy with this new experience in the Premier League.
“Over the next few days there will be more talks and if all goes smoothly he could sign the new contract soon.”
There’s not a lot we know about the player, but he’s obviously a more defensive midfielder, similar to the likes of Jack Cork and Leon Britton.
A potential move for Cigarini would surely see the likes of Leon Britton possibly leave as he searches for first team football, while Jay Fulton considers a loan move to get more experience.
Stuttgart midfielder Alexandru Maxim has also been linked with a move to the Swans, but they may look elsewhere for a midfielder – what with Cigarini now linked and Stuttgart rumoured to be asking for 7 million euros – too high a fee for a number of interested clubs.
With Portuguese striker Eder also close to signing for around £5m, the Swans could soon increase their number of Summer signings to 5, which could complete their pre-season transfer business.
