As part of our regular match feature where we look at the top-rated players based on WhoScored.com ratings – this week’s see the versatile Matt Grimes top of the charts in the 1-0 away win at Bolton Wanderers.

The 23-year-old, who signed a new contract extension this week which keeps him at the club until 2022, impressed a fortnight ago in the 2-0 home win against Reading – playing in the heart of midfield but he’s also provided manager Graham Potter with a useful option to fill in at left back when Martin Olsson hasn’t been fully fit.

With Leroy Fer and Jay Fulton starting alongside each other in the middle and Olsson only on the bench, Grimes stayed at left back having played there at Rotherham United last week and it was another solid display.

Also closely behind Matt Grimes in the overall WhoScored.com ratings vs Bolton Wanderers was defender Joe Rodon with 7.81/10. The young centre-back had an impressive 92.3% pass success rate, 1 shot and 89 touches.

The pair between them won 14 aerials, with Rodon winning 8 of those.

Matt Grimes later moved into midfield just after the hour-mark when Martin Olsson came on to replace Barrie McKay. He moved to his preferred holding role which allowed both Fer and Fulton to push further forward as Potter temporarily switched to a 4-3-3 formation.
